For 1 portion
2 slices of bread or ciabatta
1 or 2 slices of porchetta or roasted pork
1 or 2 slices of smoked ham
1 or 2 slices of cheese, type gouda
I made this sandwich a few years back. Actually many years back. Kinda liked it after I had watched the movie titled “Chef”. Yeah, seems like many years ago. I had some leftover porchetta, and I do not like it when it is like a day old. So the Cubano sandwich seemed to might meet the need of my turning something not liked into delicious. So, here it is, Cubano sandwich, like the one coming from Miami.
Slice the roll in two or three horizontally (depends how thick it is). Smear the bottom roll with butter and top with mustard. Place the porchetta slices on the bottom roll, top it with ham and cheese rolled together. Sprinkle with some hot pepper flakes. Bake in a hot oven until heated through and the cheese starts to melt. Serve with pickled cucumbers, gherkins and giant capers.
