Today I made a simple cocktail with great local superfoods: apple, flaxseed, dried chokeberries and birch sap and sea buckthorn juice, which will strengthen us in this time of the year when we are waiting for the spring bounty. Apples do not need any introduction, but according to proverb an apple a day keeps doctors away. Flaxseed is a fantastic source of easily absorbable omega-3. In addition, flaxseed protects the stomach and cleanses the digestive tract. The aronia berries contain more anti-oxidants than raspberries, goji berries and acai. It contains 3 times more antioxidants than blueberries. Buckthorne is also a rich source of vitamin C. Birch sap supports the work of the kidneys, facilitating the removal of deposits. It strengthens the immune system, by doing so protects the body from viral and bacterial infections. It also regulates metabolism and helps to detoxify the body.
In a small bowl pour hot water over the dried chokeberries and leave it overnight to soften. In another bowl pour hot water over the flaxseed and leave it overnight to soften. Cut the apple into large pieces. Put all the ingredients into a blender and blend until smooth. You can thin the smoothie with birch sap if too thick.
